was just starting at a fremont business yesterday afternoon. they show flames shooting through the roof and a towering column of black smoke. the fire destroyed c & h enterprises on boggs terrace in fremont and some of the neighbors were told to stay indoors. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the machine shop that burned in fremont with the very latest. good morning, anne. >> reporter: good morning. the smoke has cleared here but the investigation has yet to begin as you mentioned. investigators are expected to be here this morning. once they make sure that the building has been shored up, significant damage to the building that you can see here behind me. in fact, part of the roof chanced during that fire. here's that video from yesterday afternoon. it sent up a huge plume of black smoke when it started here at c & h enterprises at around 12:45 p.m. the company specializes in machining and welding precision parts. fire officials say a grinding operation involving metal shavings was under way when this broke out. the employees ran for their lives. everyone got out okay. then there was c
building in the east bay. a three-alarm fire destroyed c & h enterprises on boggs terrace in fremont. smoke could be seen for miles. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is at the machine shop that burned in fremont where it's still too dangerous to get into the building. >> reporter: we are waiting for fire investigators to show up this morning. and they are planning on doing an investigation into the cause of this fire. so far they have not been able to get into the building here behind me. check out this video from yesterday that fire sent up a giant plume of black smoke. you could see it all over fremont. fire officials said they were doing grinding work with metal shavings here at c & h enterprises when the fire broke out. employees rushed to get out after the fire started at 1:45 p.m. >> jake came running into the office. i could see the smoke billowing over the roof to the front. and he said, call 911. we have a fire. and it just started getting worse after that. >> did everyone get out? >> everyone got out safely. >>> reporter: they did issue a "shelter in place" order in the neighborhood be

here. tesla is building the car of the future here in fremont, too. >> it's a beautiful plant. thank you. >>> the chp has busted a trio of armed robbers who have been targeting tolltakers on the carquinez bridge. they wore masks during the heists but cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran explains, they still managed to give themselves away. >> this case was an excellent example of law enforcement working together for a common goal of public safety. >> reporter: chp investigators through surveillance video and evidence were able to tie at least three of the ten robberies to three vallejo men. >> in the past 7 days, two of the suspects were arrested and a third is also in custody. he was already in custody on an unrelated matter. >> reporter: the suspects would wear masks making it difficult to id them through video. one big clue in the case, the cars used in the robberies were stolen and the three suspects were known car thieves. >> we knew from past experience car thieves and surveillance led to names of people that were involved. >> reporter: the robberies went from last year to may of this

and fremont. 880 looks good into the south bay same for the golden gate bridge no delays out of marin county. here's a look at your travel times along the peninsula. is over so good on 101. >> told temperatures, this is actually could be one of the coldest days of the year. 37 at the coast, 28 the average low inland. so very cold there and we do have a number of frost advisories freeze warnings for the north bay. so you get the drill. it's going to be chilly outside as you're about to head outside this afternoon. low to mid-50s. we'll see sunshine so a similar story to what we saw yesterday. definitely jacket weather. but it is staying dry at least for today. temperatures outside right now and this is where we see all those freeze warnings and in fact for parts of the north bay so only 28 in napa 29 in santa rosa. but even some of our east bay valleys look at livermore below freezing right now. it is a little warmer in parts of oakland, san francisco coming in, in the low 40s. so this is what's going on. that high pressure is a weak ridge today. but it's going to bring us cold temperatures
